DECEMBER, 2024Scottsdale, Ariz. Diné Artist, Dealer, Curator and Antiques Roadshow Appraiser Tony Abeyta to Curate Special Exhibition, “Desert Modernism,” at Scottsdale Ferrari Art Week Exhibition to Showcase Rare Works by Fritz Scholder, Charles Loloma, Lloyd Kiva New, Frank Lloyd Wright, Phillip Curtis and Paolo Soleri.

Scottsdale Ferrari Art Week Fair is pleased to announce that Diné artist, dealer, curator and Antiques Roadshow Appraiser, Tony Abeyta, will curate a special exhibition, “Desert Modernism,” which will show the convergence and progression of Phoenix artists of Native, Anglo and Hispanic descent, from approximately 1930-1980. The exhibition will feature rare and hard-to-find works by artists, architects and designers such as Fritz Scholder, Charles Loloma, Lloyd Kiva New, Frank Lloyd Wright, Phillip Curtis and Paolo Soleri.

Abeyta is also serving as an Advisory Committee member for the Fair. The Scottsdale Ferrari Art Week Fair is a unique event at the historical and cultural crossroads of the American Southwest. Set in one of the country’s fastest-growing cities with an ascendent contemporary Indigenous culture, the fair will showcase over a hundred leading international galleries at Westworld, March 20-23, 2025.”We are absolutely thrilled to have Tony participate in Scottsdale Art Week,” says Trey Brennen, co-owner of the inaugural Fair.

“We are set to become the leading art fair in the West and that requires a strong Indigenous representation among our dealers and curators. Tony approaches art and art history with a deep understanding of the region and the contemporary work being produced at this moment. He has worked at many of the major museums in the area and has a wonderful reputation across the Southwest.”About his curation of a special for sale exhibition at the inaugural Fair, Abeyta says, “This has given me a chance to do a deep dive into one of my favorite subjects, the evolution of Modernism through the disparate art communities that converged in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area in the middle portions of the twentieth century. I’ve long been fascinated by the work Native artists were doing in the area and I want to show how they worked, showed and created alongside great artists such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Phillip Curtis and Paolo Soleri.”

As a curator, Abeyta co-organized the exhibition New Terrains: Contemporary Native Art which was held at Phillips Auctions January 5-23, 2024. The watershed selling exhibition explored the influences of modernism, post-war and pop influences on work by 50 contemporary Indigenous artists including Fritz Scholder, Preston Singletary, TC Cannon, Cara Romero, Diego Romero, Jaune Quick-to-See-Smith, Virgil Ortiz, Jamie Okuma, Kent Monkman, Michael Kabotie, Oscar Howe, Allan Houser, Cannupa Hanska Luger and others.

The recently closed show, Abeyta\ To’Hajiilee K’e’, at the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe, featured the paintings of Tony and his father, Narciso Abeyta (Ha-So-De), and the ceramic works of his sisters, Pablita and Elizabeth. Abeyta is represented by Owings Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. About Scottsdale Ferrari Art Week             Scottsdale Art Week (SAW) is situated at the historical and cultural crossroads of the American Southwest. It is a reflection of today’s more dynamic and contemporary community, but is rooted in our unique landscape and history. Visionary art figures from Georgia O’Keeffe to Max Ernst and James Turrell were so inspired by the local landscape that they either settled here or created monumental land art. Today the art of the Indigenous Navajo, Apache and Hopi tribes who first occupied this land to Spanish colonialism and centuries of settlement is recognized alongside them. SAW is an exciting combination of historical American Art, contemporary art and design, with a special focus on contemporary art from Indigenous and Latinx, who often blur the lines between what constitutes art and design.

About ASU, SAW Gala Benefit Partner ASU Art Museum centers art and artists in the service of community well-being and social good. The Museum is a learning-centered teaching institution, providing interdisciplinary learning opportunities for students from across the university ranging from the sciences, humanities, journalism, sociology and schools of arts and design. A teaching museum, much like a teaching hospital, is responsible for training the next generation of arts professionals and are the frontrunners in research in art history and museum studies while delivering the highest possible level of artistic standards through collection teaching, exhibition making, research and audience engagement. The museum is different from other non-profit art museums in the region because of its unique ability to leverage the resources of the largest public research university in the country for community good. ASUAM fulfills ASU’s Design Principles by serving as a bridge connecting the breadth and scope of scholarly research and learning to the experience, knowledge and needs of our local communities, thereby co-creating and creating arts and culture opportunities available for all.

Eligibility Criteria for a Professional Trading Account to Bypass EU Leverage Restrictions

The European Union (EU) isn’t known for its intelligence, fairness, or competence to govern and it more than proved this when it changed financial regulations limiting the amount of leverage contract for differences (CFD) brokers could offer their clients.

A few years ago, there were no limits on forex trading leverage with some brokers offering up to 1,000 times leverage to clients who eagerly accepted these terms as the returns were often highly favorable. In August 2018, however, the EU imposed a 30X restriction on leverage to retail investors, damaging their ability to make great returns from forex trading and investing.

The regulations were implemented by the European Securities and Market Authority (ESMA). Any country that was within the EU at that time had to enforce them regardless of whether they thought they would make a positive or negative impact within their borders. It is how the EU works.

ESMA stated that the leverage restriction was to protect retail investors from overexposure to the market. It could be argued that there is some validity in this position, but a good counterargument is that leverage should be left in the hands of the individual to take responsibility for their decisions.

It also has to be said that as EU politics is dictated by lobbyists, you would have to be very naive not to rule out lobbying from big financial institutions to prompt the change in leverage limits. Larger brokers played the PR game and said they welcomed the decision but the market reaction was mixed.

So what do you do now if you are a retail investor and want to utilize forex trading leverage for higher returns and advantage when investing?

Become a Professional Trader

The solution is to become a professional trader as they have no limits on leverage. To become a professional trader is not an easy thing to do as you have to meet strict criteria. See below:

  • Experience – You have to have worked in the financial sector in a professional capacity for at least a year and can demonstrate expertise and knowledge of the forex markets including services and risks.
  • Portfolio – Your financial instrument portfolio exceeds €500,000 (at time of publication 1 euro = 1.3 CAD $) or equivalent in your local currency. Your portfolio can consist of your stock portfolio, cash savings, trading accounts, mutual funds, stock portfolio, stocks and shares ISA, and SIPP financial instruments. Non-tradable assets such as property, luxury cars, jewelry, and company pensions are not eligible.
  • Trading Experience – Over the last four quarters you can prove that you have carried out at least 10 large market transactions over each quarter. This can be related to any asset.

To achieve professional status, you need to demonstrate at least two of the above.

To become a professional trader you need to apply for a professional trading account from your broker. There are disadvantages with professional trading accounts as you may lose some forms of investor protection, but you’ll enjoy higher leverage from day 1. In some circumstances, you may even qualify for lower fees. As you are an experienced forex trader, you’ll know the fees eat into your investment returns.

Final Thoughts Forex Trading Investing

When the EU imposed regulations on forex trading and investing, many retail investors were impacted negatively. Retail investors were no longer treated like adults, and were treated as if they needed protection from themselves. Through opening a professional trading account, ESMA at least for now is treating you like an adult. So become a pro trader and trade as you want to.

Rolls-Royce know how to throw a party and turn an unveiling into the perfect analog unwrapping for the Wraith: the most powerful, technologically advanced and arguably the most beautiful Rolls to date.  On the evening of Wednesday, 28 August 2013, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars “got ‘er done” by celebrating the Vancouver arrival of its newest and most powerful model, with a dramatic unveiling event at the Rocky Mountaineer Train Station.  The private event, hosted by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Vancouver was carefully thought out and put together  to reflect the dark beauty and unparalleled power that are the hallmarks of Rolls-Royce Wraith and we were there! Take a deep breath and sit down…..

We knew this car was something out of the ordinary back in March, when we paid attention to the Geneva roll-out and a few months later, we were blown away by the Hollywood-esque Wraith promo films we were privileged to see. The Wraith seemed like the de facto standard automobile for a superhero in disguise or a secret agent and that’s a good thing.

“The Rolls-Royce Wraith is unlike any automobile produced in Rolls’ long and fabled history, so it is especially fitting that its arrival in Vancouver be marked by an event that [was] as grand as this,” commented Eric C. Shepherd, President  of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America. “The  Wraith represents a bold and powerful new statement by Rolls-Royce, so this event [had] been designed convey those same qualities, while bringing  this premier luxury brand to life in a way that is relevant to our  customers.”

It’s a Fastback!
Wraith’s sweeping fastback gives the car its unique character. Bold lines, tension in the panels and a raked rear screen evoke the image of an
athlete poised in the starting blocks. Further expression of dynamic intent can be seen in Wraith’s deeply recessed grill and wide rear track.

Coach doors open to reveal a sumptuous interior complete with softest  Phantom-grade leathers and expanses of wood. Named after the famous cove in the South of France where Sir Henry Royce and his design and  engineering teams spent their winters, the Canadel finish sweeps through
the contemporary interior, cosseting four occupants in a space bathed in  light and warmth.

Sumptuous- tasteful.....but is there a hidden 'machine gun' or 'oil slick' switch in here somewhere? hmmmm.
Sumptuous- tasteful…..but is there a hidden ‘machine gun’ or ‘oil slick’ switch in here somewhere? hmmmm.

The interior ambiance is complemented by Starlight Headliner, a Bespoke  feature available beyond Phantom family cars for the first time. 1,340
fiber optic lamps are hand-woven into the roof lining to give the  impression of a glittering, starry night sky.

A twin-turbocharged V12 engine married to 8-speed automatic ZF  transmission ensure that power delivery is effortless, but dramatic. 624
bhp is available to the driver while the 0-60 mph sprint is achieved in  4.4 seconds, compared with 563 bhp and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds for Ghost.

From 1,500 rpm 590 ft lbs of torque available, a wide rear track, shorter  wheelbase and lower roof height further underwrite the Wraith as the most  powerful, involved driving experience of any Rolls-Royce in history.  Performance delivers as the car’s suspension has been tuned to minimize body roll and discreetly amplify feedback when cornering; while steering weight is heavier at high speeds and lighter at low speeds to give a more polished and spirited drive.

624 BHP. 250 KPH/ 155 MPH with a Governor? A "spirited ride" indeed Helmut!

Satellite Aided Transmission   The Wraith is no GT bruiser. Agility improvements have been achieved with absolutely no compromise to the sensation of riding on a bed of air. Furthermore, the debut of Satellite Aided Transmission technology takes the powertrain to a new level of effortless delivery, one that perfectly suits the Rolls-Royce brand.

Satellite Aided Transmission uses GPS data to read the road ahead. It sees  beyond what the driver sees; anticipates his next move based on location  and current driving style, then selects the most appropriate gear for the terrain ahead. Corners, motorway junctions and roundabouts are all anticipated meaning Wraith is constantly poised to deliver on its promise of performance.

A more polished, effortless driving experience and even better response brings a new even more dynamic dimension to the famous Rolls-Royce trait, waftability.

For over a century a Rolls-Royce motor car has featured technologies designed to support occupants discreetly, delivering a peerless driving
experience epitomized by the term ‘effortlessness’. In every Rolls-Royce these assist the driver when called upon, but are prepared to return
without fuss to the background when no longer required.

A real "Smart Car". Rolls-Royce innovates once again with Satellite aided transmission: GPS technology interprets the roads physical construction and predicts the best transmission settings for the road ahead. Case in point: Curves ahead. The computer makes adjustments to ensure the driver has the ultimate amount of power and control at their disposal.

Advances in mechanical and electrical technology deliver systems like head-up display, adaptive headlights and Wraith’s keyless opening trunk.
But improvements in connectivity have taken the human-machine interface to a new level of sophistication, a suite of aids that could be likened to a contemporary on-board valet.

Voice activation commands, for example, come with a one-touch call button located on the steering wheel. A destination no longer requires manual input from a navigation menu and route assistance begins immediately, on-screen and via audio guidance following a voice command such as “navigate to 5th Avenue in New York City.”

Additional improvements in communications come in the design and functionality of the elegant Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller. This
allows navigation through on-screen functions using a touch pad that features pinch and pull functionality to echo smart phone usage. Letters
can also be “drawn” onto the pad by hand rather than by scrolling through a series of available characters on-screen. CP ***coming soon- a Silo field report from Vancouver correspondent Arthur Maughan AND his experience driving this incredible machine. Stay tuned.
